Logistic sector. Impact of the Sunday trading ban

About the report:

Assessment of the impact of the bill on the Sunday trading ban on the logistics industry. The report analyses the role of the logistics industry in the Polish economy, as well as the scope and impact of the proposed regulation. The report discusses the possibilities offered by various communities to ease the Sunday trade ban, identifies the likelihood of their adoption and estimates the impact on the industry's added value, employment and tax revenues.

Key conclusions:

  • The most important effect of extending the direct trade ban on logistics centres, warehouses and wholesalers will be the outflow of foreign capital from the logistics industry.
  • Indirect effects, in turn, are those related to a decrease in the total trade turnover in shops and wholesalers and the need to increase the maximum daily trade turnover except Sundays.
  • The ban will cause the strongest drop in turnover in companies transporting goods (7.1 per cent), and the added value will decrease the most in warehouse companies (17 per cent).
  • The most restrictive variant of the regulation would reduce the added value of the industry by 13.5 per cent. For this reason, the logistics industry should be exempted from the ban.

The report is also available in the Polish version.
